I've always been obsessed with pizza as long as I can remember. Who doesn't like pizza? It's the perfect food. Hot and chewy dough, melted cheese, and tomato sauce. Want meat? Go ahead and add that on too. Want some veggies? Sure, why not! Neapolitan, Sicilian, New York, Detroit, Chicago deep dish style...you can have whatever you like, as pizza is such a versatile food. My personal favorite is the Neapolitan (Napoletana) pizza. This is as pure and original as it gets. The birthplace of pizza is Naples, Italy. These pizzas are cooked in a wood fired brick oven with temperatures around 900-1000 degrees F. Cook times are usually 60-90 seconds. The dough is fermented at least 24 hours and a lot of work and effort go into making it. You will notice that most of my pictures are Napoletana style, which is my expertise.
Pizza is linked to so many of my memories. We would make homemade pizza once a week as a family and get takeout pizza as well. My brother and I would eat at Cicis when we were kids and see who could eat the most slices. In the past decade, I have traveled the world and ate pizza in many different cities and countries. I found myself researching the best pizza places at my destination and made it a point to go eat there, taking pictures and chronicling my experiences. Over the past couple of years, people started asking me where to go for pizza in different cities. So I created the pizzasandpassports Instagram account to kind of keep an inventory of all my pizza exploits. I made this website so I can share my experiences in detail, as well as give people a sortable list by cities of all the places I've eaten pizza. I've also ranked these pizzas. Enjoy!
